Our Approach to Sedation and Sleep Dentistry

We understand that many people avoid the dentist because they’ve either had a traumatic experience in the past, or feel that no one can help them, but we can! Our board-certified anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists are dedicated to our patients’ comfort and well-being. We can handle absolutely everything in one location, and most often in one visit!

This comprehensive approach to sedation and sleep dentistry affords our patients greater comfort and convenience of care, as well as allows us to build trust with each patient so they can relax knowing they are making the right decision. It’s important to us to help our patients experience unparalleled oral care so they can avoid any additional overall health issues.

We work diligently to ensure we can resolve as many issues as we can in one comfortable visit.

About Our Practice & Our Philosophy

The Spodak Dental Group team is dedicated not only to their patients, but also their community. The entire facility was built with the patient in mind and every corner of the office has a purpose. Six healing gardens surround the facility to comfort patients and offer an area of respite before, during, and after their appointment. Floor-to-ceiling windows in every one of the 18 operatories and the main space allow for natural light to pour in, accounting for 85% of the lighting in the facility.

Studies show that natural light has been proven to reduce patient pain and stress during recovery, so the goal was to have as much of a “healing” building as possible.

There are no doors on the operatories and the doctors’ desks are in the main space, fostering greater communication between not only patients and their dentist, but also between the team of 10 general and specialty dentists. There is no need for a patient to visit another office to get a second opinion when the doctors can discuss your case and agree on the best treatment plan right there in the consultation room with you.

The Spodak family has lived in Delray Beach since the opening of the practice, and is deeply rooted in the success of the city. The nearly 50 doctors, clinical and administration team members all live by a set of core values where their aim is to change the world through the power of compassion. They volunteer for local community events, help with the personal development of other team members, and provide free dental services to underprivileged children.

Our facility was designed with your healing in mind

Bi•o•phil•i•a

noun a scientific movement linking human health and responsiveness to natural environments

Life loves life. It may seem like common sense to some, but it’s actually real science. Recent studies in biophilia have shown that people actually heal faster and perform better when surrounded by nature and natural light, which is why we designed every inch of this facility based on this principle.

Each operatory has floor-to-ceiling windows and live plants, which allow for a calming and healing environment for the patient. Doctors and team members also benefit as natural lighting lowers the occurrence of human errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

“Who can benefit from sedation dentistry?”

A lot of people! Many adults who hate needles/shots and the noises, smells, and tastes associated with the dental office, are afraid and embarrassed about their teeth, have a high fear of visiting the dentist, who gag easily or have sensitive teeth, or who have complex dental problems that require length appointments are all great candidates for sleep dentistry or IV sedation.

“Will I feel any pain?”

No, that’s the best part! Depending on the level of sedation, you could be asleep the entire time you’re receiving treatment, and will wake up feeling relaxed after your appointment. Most patients report not feeling any pain at all.

“How will I know if I can be sedated?”

Our in-office nurse will review your complete medical history with you and will approve you for her recommended level of sedation. If necessary, we will also reach out to your primary care provider or specialist doctor for additional approval.

“What are the different forms of sedation I can receive?”

We offer two forms of sedation dentistry in our office, and we will work together to choose the best option for you.

For people who have mild dental anxiety or prefer to just be a little more comfortable during treatment, we would
offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide).

The benefit of this is that you simply breathe in the gas, and the feeling goes away a few minutes after your treatment, so you are able to drive and go about your day. If patients prefer to be asleep during their treatments, we also offer IV sedation. This is a great option for patients who have extreme dental anxiety and are undergoing several treatments (cleaning, extraction, implant, root canal, etc.) in one visit.
