“Who can benefit from sedation dentistry?”
A lot of people, particularly those with dental anxiety! Many adults who hate needles/shots and the noises, smells, and tastes associated with the dental office, are afraid and embarrassed about their teeth, have a high fear of visiting the dentist, who gag easily or have sensitive teeth, or who have complex dental problems that require lengthy appointments are all great candidates for sleep dentistry or IV sedation.
“Will I feel any pain?”
No, that’s the best part! With our sleep dentistry services, depending on the level of sedation, you could be asleep the entire time you’re receiving treatment and will wake up feeling relaxed after your appointment. Most patients report not feeling any pain at all.
“How will I know if I can be sedated?”
Our in-office nurse will review your complete medical history with you and will approve you for her recommended level of sedation dentistry. If necessary, we will also reach out to your primary care provider or specialist doctor for additional approval.
“What are the different forms of sedation dentistry I can receive?”
We offer two forms of sedation dentistry in our office, and we will work together to choose the best option for you.
For people who have mild dental anxiety or prefer to just be a little more comfortable during treatment, we would
offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide).
The benefit of this is that you simply breathe in the gas, and the feeling goes away a few minutes after your treatment, so you are able to drive and go about your day. If patients prefer to be asleep during their treatments, we also offer IV sedation. This is a great option for patients who have extreme dental anxiety and are undergoing several treatments (cleaning, extraction, implant, root canal, etc.) in one visit.
