Skylight Dome
The dome blocks UV radiation and the strong midday sunlight but can pick up & transmit low angle light in the early morning and evening.
Our home is your home, and we have gone to great lengths to make our building not only comfortable but also as healthy as possible. Abundant natural light and contact with the natural environment, the main driving concept behind our building, has been proven to be better for our health, productivity and sense of well being. You will notice that just about every room in our building has natural light and views to the exterior gardens and landscape. We even use Solatubes to direct natural light into several of our rooms that do not have windows.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, and is the most well respected standard for green buildings in the United States. LEED buildings are proven to be healthier environments for visitors as well as employees and utilize less natural resources in their construction and operation than standard buildings.

Like most green buildings, we use ultra efficient water fixtures to minimize the use of potable water. Combined, our fixtures use 50% less water than a standard commercial building. In addition, our dental vacuum system uses no water. Traditional dental vacuums will use thousands of gallons of water every day.
Saves up to 80% of our
landscape water consumption.
Our two rainwater harvesting tanks
with a total capacity of 14,000 gallons

The interior lens ensures an even delivery of the natural light into the interior of the building.

To reduce our energy utilization further most of our installed lighting is LED (light emitting diodes) and compact florescent. If you visit us in the evening you will notice the calming low levels of light and our use of selective task lighting.
Solatubes provide natural light for enclosed interior spaces. This natural light is good for our health, significantly reduces our building’s energy consumption and saves in operating costs. In addition to natural lighting, our facility is designed with energy efficient cooling systems that are more than 1/3 more efficient than standard commercial technologies. Our roof is also bright white and our parking lot is light colored concrete, all designed to reflect light rather than absorb the light and heat, and thus reducing the energy it takes to keep our building cool.
The innovative design of the Solatube diffusers features individual Fresnel lenses. Fesnel lenses are named after French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel and the lens type is typically used to extend the visibility of coastal lighthouses.
In our building, they provide light diffusion and vertical surface illumination by creating a high, wide-angle spread to bring the light higher up the walls.
We love clean fresh air, and we hope you do too. Our building has advanced cooling systems that are not only energy efficient, but in fact also provide increased ventilation compared to a typical commercial building. Furthermore, all materials used for our building are low-emitting, meaning they contain little or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Look up and you will see a thin black line in the ceiling, these lines are placed throughout our building and are our diffusers, continually carrying fresh filtered air into our building.
The ventilation system for our building has 66% more fresh air intake exchange (fresh air in and building air out) than a typical commercial building while at the same time managing this exchange using less energy than a typical commercial building.
Our operations use state-of-the-art sterilization for all of our equipment and dentistry tools. We pride ourselves on having impeccable standards for cleanliness and safety for our patients and staff.
We also use digital x rays which do not require the use of toxic chemicals to develop the film. This building is a non-smoking environment.

We welcome you to visit the small gardens around our building including the trellised garden, the tropical garden to the east, our entry gardens, our fruit and vegetable garden at the north east corner of our building, our rain gardens at the south end and our naturalized parking lot gardens.
You will notice our building is surrounded by small gardens with a mix of native and tropical vegetation. In fact, our landscape has 83% more vegetation and green space than required by the city code. These gardens are for our patients and employees to rest and enjoy. Most of our landscape is irrigated from our cisterns that collect rainwater from the north half of our building.
Over 20% of our building is made from recycled materials in an effort to reduce material waste. Our exterior entry canopy, bike racks, window and door frames are also made with aluminum which has recycled content and is fully recyclable. Additionally, over 20% of our building is also made from regional materials, meaning less energy was required to transport materials to the site.
Carpet flooring is CRI Green Label certified and Red List Free meaning it does not contain any harmful toxins such as PVC, formaldehyde, lead or phthalates. This carpet tile, used throughout the building, is also made with 44% recycled material and has cradle to cradle certification meaning that the product is developed for continuous reprocessing from recycled material to recyclable product and back to material for future products.
The top slats of the western trellis are made from 100% recycled plastic lumber, typically one gallon milk jugs like the ones you recycle at home, as are the wheel stops on site; this material is extremely durable and is warranted for over 30 years against warping and cracking even in the Florida sun.
