About Wisdom Teeth Removal

Studies show that wisdom teeth will cause complications over your lifetime, and although they may not be causing symptoms that you feel or are aware of, there could be issues going on under the surface that are problematic. If you’re not sure about the status of your wisdom teeth, or just want more information about wisdom teeth removal, make an appointment to see a wisdom teeth dentist and oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Wisdom teeth removal is a personal decision and your dentist will take a look at your X-rays and work with you to ensure you have a happy and healthy smile.

Wisdom teeth are often impacted, meaning that they’re not able to fully erupt through the gum line due to limited space. If you’ve had braces or Invisalign prior to your wisdom teeth coming in, this could ruin the straight teeth you’ve worked so hard to achieve! Without wisdom teeth removal, your bottom and top rows of teeth will be pushed forward, causing overcrowding, crooked teeth and bite problems. This will all require additional future work to re-straighten.

Overcrowding can ruin a healthy smile because teeth that are too close together can become breeding grounds for plaque and bacteria. Crooked and crowded teeth are more difficult to clean when you brush and floss your teeth. Built-up bacteria might not be removed until you have a professional cleaning. This will allow tartar to form, increasing the chances of tooth decay and gum disease.

At Spodak Dental in Delray Beach, our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon will be able to take care of any and all problematic wisdom teeth to not only keep you out of pain, but also to maintain your healthy and straight smile.

Bi•o•phil•i•a

noun a scientific movement linking human health and responsiveness to natural environments

Life loves life. It may seem like common sense to some, but it’s actually real science. Recent studies in biophilia have shown that people actually heal faster and perform better when surrounded by nature and natural light, which is why we designed every inch of this facility based on this principle.

Each operatory has floor-to-ceiling windows and live plants, which allow for a calming and healing environment for the patient. Doctors and team members also benefit as natural lighting lowers the occurrence of human errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I absolutely need to have my wisdom teeth extracted?

No! But, it is incredibly important to make sure you visit your dental team regularly so they can assess whether or not the wisdom teeth are growing in properly or not. There are several issues that can occur from impacted wisdom teeth, like abscesses, pain, crooked teeth, etc., and your dental team wants to avoid this at all costs.

How long is the recovery time?

This depends person to person. Some people feel minimal pain after surgery and are able to go back to work or school in a couple of days. Other people experience more swelling after surgery and will need to relax for several days. Impacted wisdom teeth are more difficult to extract, which is another reason to see your dentist so he/she can recommend the best time to have the teeth extracted.

Will it hurt?

The great news about our office is that we have a full-time nurse on our team, as well as an anesthesiologist, who can provide varying levels of pain management. If you’d like, we can put you to sleep during the procedure so you don’t feel anything at all. Or, if you prefer to be awake during the procedure, we can provide, for instance, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax.

Is this covered by my insurance?

It depends on the insurance you have, but, most insurances do cover wisdom teeth extractions! Our treatment coordinators and insurance specialist will work diligently to maximize your dental insurance benefits so you can worry less about finances and more about the healthy smile you want!
